About & Contact
My name is Karolien, I am the woman behind kornelia jewelry.
Jewelry making is my fulltime job. I studied jewelry design and after that started this business. I can't believe that starting my business is already more than 6 years ago. I really love my job and hope my customers enjoy wearing my jewelry as much as I enjoy making them.
Here, in my studio in Mechelen (Belgium), I design new pieces for my collections and create the jewelry with a lot of love and care. A perfect day at work for me is listening to a good podcast or my favorite music while working on some orders and after finishing orders still having the time to play around with some little things I find on my jewelers' bench to create something new.
I'm inspired by nature, animals, funny situations, dreams or stories to create jewelry or objects that are (mostly) playful and figurative. I want my jewelry to tell a story. It is nice when people spontaneously start to smile when they notice my jewelry on someones clothes or body. Or when they start a conversation about it with the wearer of the jewelry. But I don't want to think about it to much, I just play and let it grow!
Besides my story-telling figurative jewelry, I really enjoy making wedding rings and bridal jewelry. Yes, I have a romantic soul. I love to listen when couples are telling their love-story and I feel blessed to be a part of such an amazing engagement / commitment in life. Wedding rings mean a lot, so I put a lot of love and effort in making the rings.
One of the things I like most about making jewelry is that (beside the economic value) there is a great emotional value attached to jewelry. You are more conscious of spending money on a piece of jewelry than most people are for example with food, because you know it 's going to last for a long long time. Mostly you buy or get jewelry for a special reason. I hope that my designs are cherished for generations. That's why I make everything with a lot of love.
